A self-taught chef, Woldy began entertaining privately for friends while simultaneously pursuing a career in the fashion industry - beginning in the editorial departments of Elle and Nylon magazines. In 2010, Woldy began working for designer Phillip Lim where he was a brand ambassador for nearly six years.
During his tenure in the fashion industry, Woldy developed a keen understanding of the types of cuisine his fashion colleagues wanted to eat. His approach to food is that it should be healthy, accessible, and satisfying. While gravitating towards Mediterranean and Asian influences, his mantra is fresh, local and seasonable.
Woldy's other maxim is beautiful and chic. On days off, he is often found wondering through flea markets or pursuing artisanal ceramic studios, foraging for the perfect platters, wooden boards, and vessels for his food. At Woldy Kusina, color, artistry, and the integrity of room temperature cuisine is vital to the experience of dininig.
